Accessibility statement for Playable Concepts at Aalto University

Aalto University’s Playable Concepts website is subject to the EU’s accessibility directive, the aim of which is to ensure equality in a digitalised society and set uniform requirements for accessibility.

Playable Concepts was launched on March 25th, 2020. The site’s current accessibility standard aim is WCAG 2.1, level A. The requirements of the Directive have been taken into account in the development of the website, and the work continues. The information in this statement is based on self-assessment using the WordPress Guidelines for Accessibility and Accessibility Statement Generator, built by Nomensa.

How are we doing?

Aalto University Playable Concepts is committed to observing accessibility standards. The following measures are implemented in order to achieve this goal:

  • accessibility is part of our mission statement,
  • accessibility has been taken into account in the university practices,
  • a member of staff has been appointed to be responsible for accessibility at the university.

We’re working hard to achieve our goal of Level A accessibility, but we realise there are some areas that still need improving. The following information explains what we’re doing to make that happen. The following measures are going to be implemented during Autumn 2020 – Spring 2021 in order to achieve this goal:

1.1.1: Non-text Content

We are adding media descriptions and animation descriptions to address the inaccessibility of non-text content.

1.2.1: Audio-only and Video-only (Prerecorded)

We are adding media descriptions and animation descriptions to address the inaccessibility of time-based content.

1.2.5: Audio Description (Prerecorded)

We are working on creating text-descriptions for video content.

1.3.1: Info and Relationships

We are working on correcting our mark-up.

1.4.5: Images of Text

We will add descriptions and titles to images that contain text.

2.4.2: Page Titles

We are addressing this issue by adding titles that describe topic and purpose.

2.4.7: Focus Visible

We are changing image-based links that are less visible to text-based links.
